Oh yeah. Rode that stupid tsunami for THIRTY TWO HOURS baby. And self, next time you think what a stonking great deal that ticket is and you merrily press BUY, BUY NOW BEFORE THE WHOLE WORLD FINDS IT AND BUYS IT FIRST, you miiiiiiight wanna check the layovers. all 21 of them.
Also, public service announcement to the world - if you find yourself with an 11 hour layover, don't do it in terminal 1 of Heathrow 'cause not only does Heathrow not have free internet (WTF HEATHROW? Toronto can do it, and do it with style!), it also does not have ANY place to sleep. Not even the slump-over-until-you-cramp type sleep. Also it's pretty damn boring and there are only 2 places to charge up an electronic device. And it's SIM card machine doesn't give you change even though it totally promises it will. [however the people working there were lovely]
So ANYWAY, tsunami mostly over and I'm washed up here on the beach but [OMINOUS MUSIC] sans baggage which is a bit of a facer since, given that my carry on backpack already weighed about fifty pounds, I had blithely chucked all of the little things like shampoo and contact lens stuff and moisturizer etc into my checked baggage. Thank god I thought to shove a few pairs of clean knickers into a side pocket or I would be deported back to America with a 'thanks, but we have strict biological warfare rules around here' note tied 'round my neck.
British airlines is kindly trying to sort the baggage issue out for me which will hopefully end in success but in the meantime I look a bit shaggy 'round the edges and am going to venture into York soon to try to find enough clean clothes so the desk clerk doesn't give me the stink eye over the next few days, as well as at least the bare basics of toiletries or I won't want to share a room with myself.
There may be either no posting at all for a bit, too much posting, or the super lazy kind which is mostly just photos I've taken... except I just remembered that my camera battery charger was in my luggage as well. Sigh.
I love York! Gorgeous city. You must must must have at least one meal at Betty's Cafe, it is wonderful.
So pleased you've arrived in the UK in one piece and I hope your luggage is found and you get adjusted soon.
